South Africa 313 and 71/8, England 323
What a session! I’ve never seen England imposing a collapse like that live before (although I’ve seen them suffering one, more than once). Broad was absolutely superb, and the batsmen were looking terrified of him by the end of his spell. Taylor’s catching at short leg was pretty special too – there was a hashtag on twitter of #thingsJamesTaylorcanstopatshortleg, suggestions for which included the unstoppable march of time, the inevitable heat death of the universe, man-made climate change, and (my suggestion) “the motion of the ocean and the sun in the sky“.
Being ever the pessimist when it comes to England, I can still imagine the South Africans putting on another 300 for the last two wickets, or bowling Englabd out for 25, but it’s looking more and more possible that I will have at least one free day in Johannesburg – what to do?
